The gospel doesn’t stop when we trust Jesus. The Gospel is not just our “get out of hell free card.” Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5 we are a new creation to be ambassadors with a ministry and message of reconciliation.

All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us theministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

As a new creation in Christ, you have been reconciled to God. When a person believes in Jesus, God through his Spirit, has called out, “Where are you?” like he did with Adam and Eve. We no longer have to respond like Adam, “I was afraid so I hid myself.” In his great mercy he has made a way for our relationship to be reconciled.

Once you are reconciled to God, your role as an image-bearing ambassador is restored and God gives you the ministry and message of reconciliation. God makes his appeal through you to the ends of the earth for all people to be reconciled to God. The commission of Jesus becomes your calling:

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age (Mat. 28:18-20).

Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. (Luke 24:46-48).

Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you (John 20:21).

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8).

The church is plan A in God’s purpose to be glorified through the salvation of sinners in Jesus Christ. His partnership with us as ambassadors in creation has not changed. We join with God to the see whole earth filled with image-bearing ambassadors one soul at a time through speaking the gospel of Jesus Christ and making disciples through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Your call to salvation was your call to mission.
